The 80s Were Something Else. See: This Fiero Ad

Wes grew up around cars at the family business. He makes no attempt to hide his love of early 90s GM products, and still repents selling his sweet '94 Pontiac Sunbird a few years back.

All the buzz about the Ford F-150 being made of aluminum got me thinking about other cars made from non-steel materials. This took my mind to the Pontiac Fiero, which was a fiberglass gem from the 80s. And that led me to think about Pontiac Fiero advertising…which naturally led to the classic ad above. The 1985 Pontiac Fiero, brought to you by non other than Daryl Hall and John Oates of the 80s band Hall & Oates. You Are Welcome.

By the way, Hall & Oates may not be cranking out singles anymore, but they are still rocking. Their website shows that they are actually quite busy, but now performing as Daryl Hall & John Oates, for some reason.

Actually, if you’ll look at their hit song entries in Billboard and at their old album covers, you’ll see that they were billed as Daryl Hall John Oates (no ampersand). They’ve always preferred it that way, but they’ve accepted the moniker Hall & Oates by which most people call them. They’re still putting out albums individually, and Daryl has the TV and Web show “Live From Daryl’s House.” It is not known whether they’ll put out another album together. They still play together, and I’m happy to say that I plan to see them at the end the month (August 2015) for the 15th time–but the first time in nearly ten years.
