Ford Raptor Has No Reason To Fear The Reaper

Chevy Reaper vs Ford Raptor

It’s about time Chevy produced their own version of a serious off-road truck, but will it be good enough to last? When looking at a few of Chevy’s previous pickup debacles, it’s only natural to be a little skeptical. For example, we all had to endure Chevy trucks like the Avalanche as it did its best impression of an 8th-year college senior trying to decide its major: “Should I be a terrible pickup? Or an even worse SUV?” And the smaller Colorado truck didn’t exactly “wow” anyone, and it eventually had to take a break and start over. So it raised the question: Will the Reaper actually serve a purpose in the truck world? Or will Chevy take another one up the tailpipe?

The all-new Chevy Reaper really has only one other competitor to outperform, the Ford Raptor. Since 2009, the Ford Raptor has been one of the only radical half-ton pickup trucks with a terrain-hungry demeanor on the market. Ford got it right by building a pickup with well over 400 horsepower that could tear up the back 40 and still remain poised enough to double as an everyday driver.

At first look, the Chevy Reaper is essentially a “roided” out version of a 2014 Silverado, which is a very good truck. With the help of Southern Comfort Automotive, the Reaper features some pretty attention-grabbing visuals. Mud-thirsty black beadlock rims wrapped in BFG rubber, a pissed-offed looking front-end and massive fender flares should all be good enough to get any redneck aroused. However, after noticing a few details, I have to fault Chevy for awkwardly photo-bombing Ford a little bit. I just can’t help but to call the Reaper out for doing its best impression of a “creeper” on the Raptor.

reaper and raptor graphics

Are these graphic packages not eerily similar?

The Reaper? Really? Is it just me or does Reaper sound a little bit too much like Raptor? It’s not just the name that’s eerily similar to Ford’s version of an off-road truck, there’s more. The Reaper, like the Raptor, also features a Fox Racing suspension, a very similar skid plate peeking out from its undercarriage and almost identical rim offerings. Not to mention the Reaper basically has the same “shredded” (or whatever you call those) looking graphics awkwardly pasted onto its truck bed. I’m not saying Ford’s look good back there, but they at least came up with the awful idea first, right?

Where it looks like the Reaper will at least separate itself from the Raptor is with engine performance. Packing a more potent punch under the hood, select Reaper models will be able to churn out as much as 550 horsepower thanks to an available 6.2-liter supercharged engine, which trumps the 2014 Raptors only engine offering by nearly 140 ponies.

Before anyone decides to hand over the off-road crown to the Reaper, I would like to point out the fact that Ford is more than capable of upping the ante in terms of power. I don’t know how many of you follow the off-road truck world, but for 2013 Raptor models, Ford did produce a limited production Shelby edition which featured a 575-horsepower engine. As far as I can tell, Ford hasn’t issued a Reaper rebuttal with the return of the Shelby nameplate for future Raptor models as of yet, but I’m sure we’ll see something.

Winner of the CarDebate: The Ford Raptor

ford raptor front endIt’s really hard to say which truck is a more capable option. Both trucks are outfitted with some serious terrain-hungry equipment, and both really do look impressive (apart from the rear graphics). The only concern I have with the Reaper, is that it might just have too much power. I know, a truck with too much power sounds about as logical as a basketball player that can jump too high, but there is some reasoning behind it.

The Raptor has earned its merit because of its handling and feel; I’m curious to see if all that extra horsepower the Reaper harnesses will affect its driving ability or not. Nothing is more frustrating to a serious auto enthusiast than a lack of vehicle composure, which is certainly required to accomplish harry off-road maneuvers. Perhaps too much power is why we don’t see a 575-horsepower Shelby Raptor anymore. So for that fact alone, until both trucks can actually square off in a real driving situation, I’ll have to keep my money on the tried-and-true Raptor.

The raptor is better. Cheaper too. And guess what. Put that towards a supercharger and bam. The 1 thing chevy outdid ford with, being power, is no longer. The reaper is ugly. Any chevy guy saying the raptor is ugly and the reaper isn’t needs to get their head examined.

Alright there mister let’s see you do a decent job supercharging an engine. You can’t just slap a supercharger on and expect it to do something. You would need to fabricate your own intercooler hoses which would take time and money

chevys are plain old ugly trucks.. where i come from they are mostly popular with the mexican mennonites, and redneck type people… upper class families around my area generally drive the nicer limited model f150s, platinums, and lots n lots of FX4’s. But where i come from our trucks have to work through deep snow in the winter months. Chevys don’t cut it, Plus they ugly.. big fat ugly grill.. yuck, GMC = great mennonite car

Of course they are going to have similar stylings they both are baja styled trucks!!!
that logo on the back is what every baja truck has ford didnt invent that logo get your facts right.
In terms of fox shocks they are both gonna use them cause they are the best.
Now lets talk performance a regular crew cab raptor 0-60 is 7.7s if you pay shelby america 20k for the optional 575hp its 0-60 time is only 5.1. this is still a slower time than a reaper. the reapers base engine has more hp than the raptors. it runs a 5.0 with the base engine and a 4.3 with the supercharged one. Get your facts straight Reapers are faster better looking higher performance and they are less expensive without sacrificing any performace. and a chevy colorado was a wow in my book besides the in line 5 it was a solid truck offroad.

Nice try little brother Chevy has always been better than they always will be.

By always better you mean except when its getting recalled or they need another government bailout right? I own both a chevy and a ford and for the most part I’m happy about both but chevy fans should really lay low for awhile longer about who is better.. Ford didn’t take my tax money. I’m a Chevy fan but I do think they copied ford a bit on this one. I think the ford looks a bit better too. And for those who argue that they are supposed to look the same because they are in the same league, thats untrue and laughable. Doesn’t a Lamborghini and Pagani look different? Are they not in the same league? Or even a Chevy cobalt and ford focus… Anyway you get my drift. But I do think this review is a bit biased, it shows the Chevy stats beating the fords and yet the Ford wins because it “might” come out with the Shelby Engine? If we are comparing two vehicles on what could possibly be added then who’s to say Chevy might be puting jet thrusters on the next line of reaper’s.

        Apr 29, 2015 at 10:26 am

Both the reaper and the raptor were made by an outside company. They were not produced by Chevrolet or Ford. They were hired by the companies to make them. So who is to say they did not use the same company?

I bought my Raptor in November 2014, and I have to say that Ford has an awesome combination! The suspension package handles almost like a sports car on the road, and it corners better than some of the sports cars I have driven. Throttle response is strong, crisp, and predictable, along with handling. The stereo system is loud, crisp and well powered, the seating is perfect for daily driving and well bolstered for off road. Raise the front spring perch up one of two already included notches, and the stance is perfect. Suspension travel and damping in off road conditions make for a brisk and easy jaunt out in the sand dunes. Disable all the electronic management systems, drop the shifter into manual mode, and you have 60 in second gear, with four more to go! A BMW 535ix has a major challenge if they desire to test you, and for that matter most do. I have had one vehicle I tried in earnest to defeat, and it got the better of me. It was a 2012-2014 time frame Subaru Impreza WRX STI hatchback. It was raining, and I had to go to 4 wheel high to get enough traction to take off. It robbed just enough power and I got beat. Obviously, I vote Raptor. Especially considering Chevy went all out to do the Reaper almost exactly like it, aside from tossing more power at it. They even had to get an outside source to build it for them. Ford did the Raptor from the ground up!

I have had a 2013 Hennessey Veloceraptor 600 for nearly thre years now and I could not love a vehicle more. It’s fast, it handles like a sports car, and performs like one too. The only knock that I have against it was that it was built by John Hennessey who is an out and out Theif who steals money from clients by taking deposits and never delivering the vehicle because he is already Judgment PROOF! He really should be in Jail! But, back to the vehicle itself. They have suggested that more horsepower could also be a detriment well, I can attest that it MOST CERTAINLY IS NOT! The truck handles it so well. I have ordered a new Shelby Baja700 (2014 Raptor) and I cannot wait to get it. Going back for seconds with even more power should speak for itself!

Not to mention two completely different engines…I have driven a raptor many times and it felt a bit under powered. I say dont talk shit until they both run and see who wins….my bets on the chevy though.

Yes Chevy clearly copied 90% of the truck and the Chevy people will say it’s better and the Ford fans will say it’s a cheap copy. Both are very expense and far less capable than a real pre-runner but rich dads want to feel badass in them. Also, the article mentions the Shelby Raptor but leaves out the far more common Roush version that cranks out 590 hp and just as much torque. I personally love the Raptor as a stock truck and have no problem with a baja-built Chevy but I think the Raptor will stay on top. The Ram runner looked like it could swallow a Raptor and for $10k less the stock Raptor outperformed it. The Roush Raptor is on an entire different level than anything Chevy makes to compete.

  4. Kick ass

  5. Anonymous

    Mar 20, 2014 at 11:16 am

Not really. They just take all the ideas of ford n multiply them just to top ford. When Chevy can come up with their own truck that isn’t a copy with a super charged engine then I’ll give Chevy props. But I won’t for copying a bad ass truck like the raptor. The only reason the reaper has a chance to compete is its 550 HP super charged engine an 90% of the raptor body

    • casey

      Feb 13, 2015 at 9:31 am

Please stop talking you dont know what you are talking about…the whole frame of the reaper is different….they use the same brand of suspension but the setup is different. The engines are completely different along with the interior. The only thing chevy did the same is put the writing on the bed. Btw a stock 6.2l chevy silverado will destroy a raptor in a race…just saying. So a stock 6.2l reaper even without a super charger would still win….sorry.

Ford Raptor. All the way! Chevy’s build quality is cheap as hell and I’ve had the first hand experience to back it up. They look nice ill give em that, but they’ll never outperform ford in terms of getting a quality product and getting your moneys worth.

  9. nick

    Mar 28, 2014 at 6:32 pm

I agree with people saying it looks alot like the raptor, but at the same time it would be hard to make a kick-ass truck with out it, like honestly what could they have done other then the front end that wouldn’t make it a raptor copy, or a shitty looking truck? its not really fair to say Chevy copied the graphics either, ford doesn’t own copyright to the back end just because they have a decal there first, they don’t even look the same, like honestly look at the two pictures. People are just trying to pick anything they can.
Lets be serious, im pretty sure every brand has used another’s look. It’s no doubt ford did a good job making the raptor, Chevy is doing its best to please its customers by bringing a off road truck with some intense power, so if you had it that much by a raptor it sure isn’t gonna offend anyone.

  10. nick

    Mar 28, 2014 at 6:40 pm

I don’t know why people are saying its 90% copy, the only copy i see are the decals (Sorta) and the Name, other than that just because the shocks and exhaust are the same doesn’t mean its copied, there just high preformace parts that ford does not own, they both have there own body styles. so if you all think thats 90% please do yourself a favor and call up your old math teachers.

Both are BA raptor is original but the Chevy upped it with the hp and torque just because Chevy got the same high performance parts doesn’t mean anything top of the line is top of the line you don’t try and compete with something with lower grade parts just to be different then get your ass whooped! Chevy is different in looks on the body and placed the graphics at different angles. It’s all what you like I would choose the Chevy because I own one myself 5.3 vortec 2000 Chevy never had engine problems anyone that usually does have problems with don’t pay attention to their oil levels. I’ve ran the shit outta my Chevy mud runs and all it’s been through hell had to change the rear end a time or two but never any engine problems at 195xxx miles can’t beat that! Plus any of my family that’s ever had a for engine runs good but wiring is cheap as fuck always have electrical problems I’d rather change a rear end than deal with electrical problems to where you fix one problem that kills the batter than next it short circuits somethin else to much bs for me!

How does a truck have to much power? if you cant handle it dont look at it. the chevy reaper is better in my opinion because their 6.2 l has 550hp and the raper has a 6.2L with 411hp. if your out 4×4 you need all the horse power you need. i would have voted the reaper!!!!!!!

    • Jake

      Aug 5, 2014 at 11:39 am

Chevy’s 6.2L is supercharged, Ford’s 6.2 isn’t. If you put a Whipple supercharger on the Ford Raptor, it will give it about 180 more HP, which would make it more powerful than the Reaper.

    Apr 4, 2014 at 4:58 pm

I dont think people realize that lingenfelter played a big role in the design and mechanics of these two trucks. So I dont see how chevy is copying the ford design at all because the two trucks are based off of their two mainline truck designs. I think that the person who wrote this was leaning towards the ford because they simply dont like Chevy and cant accept that the reaper is better on paper and on the playing field.

I find it funny that all the chevy fans only argument is the 140 hp advantage. Thats bececause it has a supercharger. Hennessy makes a supercharger kit for the raptor that puts out 800hp . Put that number in the comparison. Now watch all the chevy fans go silent.

    • FordLover

      May 24, 2014 at 8:43 pm

Yeah, I’m sure you can put a supercharger of the same quality in the Reaper, you’ll get the same results. Stop trying to make Ford seem better when it’s plainly seen here that it’s not. You can’t fight the facts.

i have a 2012 Rouche Super Charged Ford Raptor. The Raptor has a 2-wheel differential, when you turn on the Super Charger and the differential the truck goes 137 mph. The Chevy Reaper Doesn’t have that. My Raptor can go into 40 inches of water and still kick ass. The only thing I do for my Raptor is get a tune up ever 6 months. The last truck i owned was a 2011 Chevy Siverado and it didn’t last to 100,000 miles.

Both are awesome. Only some can afford. And almost everyone that gets one won’t use it for what it’s made for. Simple as that. Better off getting a jeep or toyota and making a off road weapon that ls built for you

  25. Z

    Apr 15, 2014 at 9:50 pm

(Raptor owner)my truck is kick ass in 4ft of water it’s called a lift kit lol
I’m more of an off-road truck person I’m more of a Chevy guy I’d have to say both are good truck specs don’t mean shit it’s the performance first hand that matters you can say 800hp with stock rear end then you gas it wait what rear end! Ford Chevy Dodge all good trucks better than the little tundra anyway you see it. the only way to understand your truck itself and what It can do is to know the parts and all so if you want the best off-road truck build it yourself it’ll always turn out better especially if you put 40-60 grand in it which is what you’d spend on a new truck.

I’m sure this comment had been made somewhere in the comments section I just haven’t found it yet. Personally I don’t think there should even be an argument. Anyone remember the bailout of GM and Chrysler??? Chrysler got like $12 billion to stay afloat while GM got like $53 billion. So really there shouldn’t be any competition to the Raptor as GM and Chrysler should be out of business and there wouldn’t be a Reaper or Ram Runner. And anyone hear about GM lately??? 4.8 million recalls in the first quarter of 2014 of which 490,200 are the new Chevy/GMC 1500’s. So really there’s not a whole lot to debate here. It seems 37 years of the top selling truck in America speaks for itself, all by a company that didn’t get a nickel of bailout money. Now, 4 years after Ford introduced the Raptor, Chevy has decided to come to the table and here we are debating if government bailed out Chevy has a better truck than Ford. I understand Fords aren’t completely bulletproof but the Reaper shouldn’t even be at the table.

    • Anonymous

      Jun 15, 2014 at 8:34 pm

Only reason ford has been the best selling truck for how many ever yrs is because they don’t count chevy and gmc together……bet when u combine them that they are the best selling truck

          Jul 9, 2014 at 1:48 pm

If you believe that you need to go back and look at the numbers. It goes back and forth between the two over the last 12 years with GM still out selling Ford by over 130,000 trucks total since 2002 even though Ford has outsold GM for the last 5 years.

        • Anonymous

          Aug 12, 2014 at 3:27 pm

the only reason ford sells more cars is beacause the people that buy them end up breaking down in them somewhere and finding they blew the motor or something and scrap them or sell for parts but once u buy a chevy or a dodge u wont need to buy another vehicle.

Chevy fan, and always will be. I have a fully restored chevy K5 (76) and it had a 8.1 l vortex in it. Great truck. I also own a 2011 silverado and it is fantastic. Only issue I’ve had with it is the stupid tire warming lights that pop up when you tires are “low”. Can’t wait for the reaper to come out, because it is gonna prove itself right. I have faith in it, and I think it is gonna change everybody’s mind, and I’m sure it’ll turn the heads of ford fans. Gotta give the edge to ford though because it has been out for a couple years now, and it’s showed itself and how it performs. Two of my friends have raptors and they love em’. I like me too, but once the reaper comes out, it on like donkey kong!!!

When it comes down to it, Ford guys will like Raptors, and Chevy guys will like the Reaper. I think they both appear to be nice vehicles. If you buy the reaper, I’m sure the decals will be optional just like on the raptor. I know if I bought one I wouldn’t want the decals on there because that does seem a bit like a poser move to make the name and graphics so similar. What’s the saying, that copying is the biggest form of flattery? No point in arguing, people already have their minds made up. Buy one of them and enjoy the ride

Fact of the matter is that the raptor has been around longer and has been tested and proven…however its still a ford truck..ford stands for Fix Or Repair Daily…in the past with any ford 4×4 I have always seen problems with weak undercarriage problems…also fords in general seem to me cheaply made…ive owned several chevy Z71s and they are by far the best truck offroading by far…ive had to pull several fords outta sand and mud for lack of power…plus the 5.3lt engine in chevy are far superior to any ford v8.. also any point is that the Reaper comes standard with a supercharged engine while ford uses turbos also the Reaper comes with a standard 3in lift with fox suspension…not sure if the raptor is lifted but looks much shorter than the Reaper..however.Hennessey Auto makes a veloc raptor pack that can boost the raptors engines hp to 810…but standard head to head the Reaper wins on paper…while it hasnt been proven since its so new…think of the Reaper as a Z71 on steroids…I put my vote for the Reaper bottoms down…it will prove itself…

    • Anonymous

      May 8, 2014 at 9:57 pm

The only Raptor that has turbos is the Velociraptor, which has over 800HP. The base raptor is naturally aspirated. and still is just barely missing the mark on the Reaper.

Ram runner is a sheep on roids, and ain’t good for nothing but medeoker off roading, a raptor is an f150 with plastic surgery (literatly) and fix shocks, it’s ok on road but shit off road, reaper is ok off road and ok on road, so an off road truck with the looks to a boot, an f150 with a new front end or a bad ass tire cooker that’s got reliability and hp or one or the other shot shows. Ps Chevy runs deep as in Chevys got ford deep throtain

  41. klericks

    May 22, 2014 at 2:05 pm

Is anyone missing the fact that the raptor is a ford production truck. You can purchase one from any ford dealership. The reaper on the other hand is not a production vehicle, you cant go to the Chevy website and build it and order it from the factory, or for that matter, walk onto a dealership and pick one out. Advantage Ford!

Okay, so just because the chevy has more horsepower its better? and just because it came out after the ford and is similar makes ford better? both of these arguements are retarded coming from retarded fanboys that give both companies a bad name. Both look like great trucks (mind you i am a ford guy all the way). The raptor is a rpoven, very well balanced truck, but has the power disadvantage. The chevy looks like absolute shit, the front end is hideous, but hey they want to stand out and everyone has different taste. Then again, both of these trucks are most commonly going to be purchased by rich guys that will rarely if ever use them offroading, and they ware way overpriced compared to what you could get by making another vehicle just as good offroad with less money. They are both poser trucks. just how it is.

i mean go look at any jeep forum or like, explorerforum.com or something, older vehicles modded out for maybe a few thousand will outperform and be way more practical offroad than either of these trucks. Just as likely to break shit on the new ones but parts will cost 5x as much. these new ones are simply poser trucks.

  45. redstrap

    Jun 13, 2014 at 3:02 pm

ok look the raptors front end is 90% the same as the f150 front end at least the reapers front end looks different from the silverados front end. plus the reaper has for power. i have owned a ford and a chevy/gmc and i will take a chevy/gmc over a ford anyday. all for does is put alot of boost in there trucks bc thats the only way to make them compete with a chevy/gmc. so i will personally take the reaper over the raptor any day. ford people i guess juts cant handle the power bc there not used to it.

Both trucks look good, they may both perform well. I’m a fan of neither brand. You don’t see chevy diesels pulling massive cattle trailers or car haulers down the road, it’s ford’s and dodges you see. Chevy couldn’t stay afloat and they are now owned by the government (how the fuck you burn billions of dollars is beyond me) ford has been the staple since the creation of the automobile.

On another note look at the tundra rock warrior, they would smoke the chevy. Also for all you ignorant tard who say “them Chinese trucks” toyotas are built in Texas! Most chevy are built in Canada or Mexico you morons.

I don’t think the Reaper will compare to the Ford raptor and especially not to the Ford Shelby Raptor at all. But i guess time will tell when Ford and Chevy go head to head with them, i cant wait for that day!

I’m a whatever vehicle gets me where I need to go guy. With that said I’ve owned a Ford ranger and a Chevy s10 and the Chevy had better handling and more pep. But as far as a work truck it’s Ford hands down. I put 37 60lb bags of concrete in the back of my ranger and hauled it to the job which was 45 miles away. I put half of that in the s10 and barely wanted to move. I worked in road construction for 10 years in the labors union and every general contractor out there that I’ve seen personally, all use Ford’s out in the field because no other truck on the market can handle the work load. For looks and comfort I’d pick the Chevy, but for hauling and workload I’d have to go with Ford. And dodge is for women and children.

Chevy couldn’t come up with a truck that compires to the Raptor on their own so they had to wait until ford to build the best truck first and than copy it. I think chevy wanted a truck like the Raptor and couldn’t come up with one so they had to get plans from ford. I guess that’s what happens when all of you vehicles gets recalled. Chevy guys buy a Ford and you don’t have to worry about it being recalled.

Chevy had to wait until Ford built the Raptor first so they could get the plans on how to build a real truck that they didn’t have worry about recalling it after they built it. Chevy drivers say Ford stands for found on road dead that’s funny Ford doesn’t have all they recalls that Chevy has. Chevy drivers buy a Ford and you won’t need to take your car in for a recall because Chevy just can’t get it right the first time. They should sat Ford stands for First on race day.

Here’s my take. Yes, I agree that Chevy completely copied Ford. I’m almost disappointed it took them this long. Then again, dealing with bailouts and millions of recalls probably took a lot of their time. Anyway, my serious problem with the Chevy isn’t so much that they copied Ford, but the fact that the Raptor is a completely engineered and designed off road truck. It doesn’t just have a lift and big tires. It has all different components as far as stronger A-arms, knuckles, ball joints, etc. The Chevy just got a 3 inch lift, some Fox shocks, and bigger tires. How does that compare? It’s not going to hold up if it really gets pushed hard. I have a Raptor and before you call me biased, I have had other brands before. I push things hard. Problem I have had with every lifted truck is breaking steering and suspension parts. My Raptor has 41,000 miles on it and I haven’t managed to break anything. Believe me, I have tried. As far as power goes, with headers, full exhaust from Kinney’s, an intake, and a tune, the 6.2 absolutely screams. And finally, from what I have read, the “Reaper” is built by Lingennfelter. So basically you can buy a 40K truck, send it to them, spend another 25K at least, and void all factory warranties. Or but a brand new Raptor like I did for 50K, put less than 4K into it and have a full factory warranty and no worries. That is all

The Reaper in my opinion looks better, but i doubt it could hold up to what the Raptor can. I don’t see why he didn’t mention the Ram Runner. It has a better chance keeping up with the Raptor than the Reaper in my opinion.

Okay, I can’t handle this anymore. You dumb shits are repeatedly saying you would
Choose the Chevy for it’s “reliability” and “build quality” and here is my rebuttal. First hand experience: I’ve sold both brands of cars to make my living and I can say that 1 of 4 Chevrolet transport trucks was carrying, what we referred to as, a “dud.” As in the car needed to be sent back immediately because the quality was so horrendous we couldn’t sell it. Never once in two years did that happen at the Ford dealership. Now for global statistics: GM has recalled more vehicles than it has built in the last 5 years! I appreciate the fact that your grandpas ’84 C10 is still running strong but that doesn’t mean squat to me as far as my daily driver is concerned because that’s not even an option.

The reaper isn’t copying the raptor. They’re both copying the basic setup of any decent pre-runner truck. Decals included. Sure the names are similar, but who cares? They’re both very impressive production vehicles and performance should determine which is better, not who started the trend.

I’m a huge Chevy fan, and I still respect Fords. Trust me though, this new “Reaper” (which sounds just like raptor) is a pretty big copy of the Raptor. Not saying that the Reaper is bad, I just think the the world’s best brand can do better than copying a Ford.

The ford and chevy fan boys need to get a room.
Go to the Raptor forums and read about the dozens of engine/transmission/electrical/brake/rear end problems.
The Tundra TRD PRO with a TRD Supercharger will smoke both the raper and the rupture.
And it will last twice as long as the piece of shit chevy and fords.

Yea try running that tundra across the desert at 90mph and enjoy the tail lights of the raptor. It cant handle a beating like that. And as for chevy, they have it backwards. Put that extra power into the zl1 where it will compete or outrun the gt500 and put more focus into the handling and suspension in the reaper. Maybe try some king shocks and try to outdo the raptor, not copy it. For now ill stick with my raptor.

How in the hell can you think that hunk of shit is better than the Raptor? It IS a direct copy from Ford, there is no comparison. I work on all brands of vehicles and i build Engines and Transmissions for a living. BY FAR any GM vehicle has had way more problems and more have been in the shop than Ford, Chrysler or Toyota or Honda for that matter.. Practically every single GM i encounter has more problems than what people come in for. Electronic issues (mainly), drivetrain issues, or has something falling off like the door handles, fenders, mirrors, etc.. GM vehicles ARE NOT test driven before they are shipped to the dealership and they are cheaply built because they had to take multiple government bailouts and have so many recalls it’s not even funny. Definiton of Junk! Sorry to burst your bubble GM fans but GM hasn’t produced quality vehicles for over 20 years, and you shouldn’t EVER think they can outperform Ford in any aspect, because most imports for fucks sake are more quality than them.

The chevy nose is ugly as hell that is the only thing wrong with it. You dumb fucks don’t know shit fox shocks are the cheapest decent shocks you can get far from top of the line. The ford raptor is a good looking truck but ford motors are junk! I made my wife sell hers because of it, if you want a real truck that’s going to last you better buy a chevy. If you want the best get a duramax in it. My duramax will out run the raptor! With the exception of the 7.3 power stroke ford has not had a good motor in the 2000s!

Rules: #1 Rule. If you drive a foreign truck, your opinion is not valid until you upgrade to an American vehicle
#2 If you can not spell “Suspension”…go back to middle school, then eventually try getting a G.E.D. or
get a job at a Cheverlot plant where your duty is to roll back odometers for any “Pre-certified Chevys”
#3 If your vocabulary is so small that every other word is a “F” bomb…your main goal in life should be to work
at the same Cheverlot plant as the “Spelling Champion” rolling back odometers. Since you hate everyone
your only duty is to pick up lunch for the genius rolling back odometers.
I would spell this out for you Chevy fans but it looks like you all are in need of higher education…Now please go back
and work on your A, B, C’s…….one last thought Cheverlot fans….Someday you might hear of a man named, Henry FORD…..yep, He’s your DADDY

Did any of you read any other reviews or articles on the two trucks? Chevrolet had nothing to do with building the Reaper!!!! This was built by Southern Comfort Conversions. You know, those cheap conversion packages that you pay out the nose for!!!! This REaper cost 93,000 at my local dealer and the Raptor is straight out of the SVT shop for 48,000. Think I will take the raptor and pocket 45,000.

Regardless of any performance stats or whether or not the reaper is a rip off, the fact of the matter is the reaper has one ugly, poorly after-the-fact retrofitted looking grille. It really looks like way too little of effort was put into it. It just looks like a lazy design tweek they decided to incorporate at the last possible minute. Part of it goes over the headlight in the corner. Not impressed by that.

Otherwise preference dictates. The reaper could be made of paper mache and the raptors given away for free and Chevy fans will still buy the reaper, and vice versa with the raptor. The only thing keeping the big 3 alive is preference. Foreign brands just as or more capable of making an equal or better truck, I’d personally prefer a ford though I’ll get more value out of a Tundra. It’s all in personal preference.

Every chevy didnt get a capital first because every chevy cost a lot of fords and dodges gas to tow it.

Seriously though, kid syndrome apart. You can put a 500 hp in a box that ain’t been sepc’d and call it a special edition.

Ford put lots into construction, function and power. Chevy jumped into competition and threw power at a decent base. Do you honestly think Ford couldnt throw the same power? Bitch please, at least there was thought and seasoning behind the Ford design.

just because of more power don’t mean nothing it could go better in sand and pull u to the bottom of the mud hole and find the bottom for you to gain traction and get out and second the ford raptor sucks its (411hp) 6.2 motor is junk I mean come on the 5.7 chevy motor is pushing (475hp) in my opinion when they square off the chevy will get the victory and shut all them ford lovers up once and for all and there is no way a ford truck had 575hp from the factory or you would always be working on the junk of a ford motor CHEVY ROCKS FORD SUCKS

Ford was always better? Took Chevy 5 years to come up with the design? That’s funny…. if I recall properly, the GMC Syclone came out in 1990, and the Ford Lightning(to compete), in 93′? And what happened? The Lightning ran 0-60 in about 8 seconds, 7.5 on a good day, 1/4 mile in high 15s-16 (from experience), and the Syclone did 0-60 in 4.6, and 1/4 in 13.5 or so. That’s a 5.8L vs a 4.3 with some boost. And the GM was AWD. The Lightning had a hard time spinning the tires, period(though I loved mine). Even when the SUPERCHARGED 5.4L Lightning came out, the Syclone STILL stomped on it, from 10 years before.

Most of you adding comments are complete fools. I would never take mechanical advise from some that can’t seem to figure out proper grammar,(anyone named anonymous). Let us start with the basics. Yes, Reaper and Raptor are very similar but, Silverado’s personality has always been grade A. Handling, appearance in and out, longevity of vehicle. Fact- Ford is he best selling truck. Another fact Chevy is the longest lasting truck on he road. Simple math. Cheap trucks break down and cheap trucks are bought to replace them. Ergo, ford equals best selling truck.
    Pinpoints:
Hey Chiming in… Check out 2009 and what Ford owes. Just because you say you didn’t take a bailout doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Also GM has repaid all debts.
Jake… You put a whipple on any vehicle it’s going to make incredible changes. They won’t all be good. They produce a ton a boost and will blow a motor if not kept in check.
Anonymous…. I don’t know if there is only one of you or multiple people too afraid to post with your name (probably ford fans, most can’t read). But whomever said send your Raptor to Hennessy is a fool. 800hp, alright no chance but let’s play along. Take the raptor, stock 410 ish horse, double it…. If you leave it alone you’re screwed. Have fun replacing the tranny, rear end, new transfer case to handle the power, and buy half shafts in bulk since the Raptor has the IFS. Have a good time with that.
To me the Raptor is an F-150 with a lift kit. The reaper has more clearance and travel and a fully boxed frame. Better bumpers and no front rake.
I’ll leave with this. Buy whatever truck you want it’s not a dick measuring contest. I’m in love with Silverado’s. Have had three. Get one every every new body style. They’ve pulled what I’ve needed and done decent on fuel. But take any stock truck and take the extra money and turn it into whatever you want. You’ll have similar of not better results.

    Your GM fan,

    Carl S.

Sounds like the Raptor is headed in the V6 direction…an ecoboost V6. It sounds like that Shelby conversion is just a pipe dream at this point. If your lucky to find one for under 100-120k let me know. I found a guy that wants 105k for one out in Cali ha! Just for the record the 6.2L is gone in 2015 and they claim the eco-boost will out perform the 6.2L which is yet to be seen. Personally I’m a naturally aspired person but apparently its the age of superchargers and turbo boosters… it will be interesting to see if the V6 ecoboost can keep pace with the supercharged Chevy engines…not sure if I’m liking the direction they’re headed with this one.

so the chevy looks ok at best. immitation is the best form of flattery i guess. my main issue with the reaper is the wheel arches being shitty and so boxy like they are it looks like stock and also how you gonna fit bigger tires? bad design and needs to look less like a stock chevy with stickers posted on the side

  107. Vince

    Mar 22, 2015 at 3:47 am

The Raptor has a better suspension by far, how big are the reaper fox shocks? 9″ of wheel travel is maybe an inch more wheel travel than stock, as far as looks I like them both, chev has the better engine and tranny I hear? I hope chev got rid of that pathetic locker that disengages at 20mph, what gearing does the chev come with? I guess it wouldn’t matter because the tires aren’t any bigger than most factory half ton tires anyways, the chev needs 35″ tires, the chev seats look awesome! I love and dislike all the big three, I think of the big three like beer companies, the big beer companies all make bad beer, it’s the smaller guys that make the best beer, unfortunately there hasn’t been a small auto company that has the funds $$ to make a better truck, how these bean counters get a job putting this together baffles me.
