Viper Price Drops Prior To New Corvette Z06 Release
Good news: The 2015 Viper SRT is dropping its price tag by $15,000. Bad news: It still costs $84,995.
In a move no doubt spurred by the fact that only 38 Vipers rolled off of dealer lots in the United States last month (and that competition is coming), Dodge has significantly dropped the price of its top-of-the-line sports car. But the hefty price tag is still going to be more than the average sports car fan can handle.
And there’s more trouble on the horizon for the Viper. The new 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 will be available to consumers soon…and it’s both more powerful and cheaper than the Viper – even at the $15,000 reduction. The new ‘Vette Z06 will slot in at $78,995.
So the question is, who would spend the six figures on a new Viper SRT before the price reduction…especially with information on the Corvette price point out there? At least Dodge recognizes that these folks would be pretty steamed and is offering a $15,000 certificate towards a new Viper in addition to the $15,000 regular price reduction. And it doesn’t matter if they want to keep their Viper, trade it in or crush it – they still get the rebate.
So while Dodge may be making it right with owners of the current generation Viper, it will still be tough to sell more given the price differential and horsepower figures of the upcoming Corvette. But, maybe the introduction of the new Viper GT will help. It will reportedly be close to the base price of the standard Viper. So why would anyone not get the GT then? Okay, sooo many questions. We’ll have to see how this plays out.
