You Can Drive Eleanor Like Memphis Raines – But You Have To Buy Her
He needed 50 cars. While amassing 49 was only moderately difficult, Memphis Raines always knew it would come down to one – his unicorn – Eleanor. The film being referenced is “Gone in 60 Seconds,” and Eleanor is the 1967 Mustang Shelby that was essentially one of the main characters of the movie – co-starring with Nicholas Cage, Angelina Jolie and others.
Many a car buff has lusted after this vehicle since the film (a remake) came out in 2000. Well, now you can own this piece of automotive and film history. The seventh of 11 Eleanor Mustangs used in the film will be auctioned off at Mecum’s Austin 2014 auction on Dec. 12 and 13. Making this car even more special is that it is one of only three that were used in scenes of the movie with the actual cast. This means that Nic Cage was behind the wheel in a chase scene!
If you plan to hit this auction, though, bring your checkbook…and make sure there’s a lot of money in it. The last Eleanor Mustang “hero car” sold for a cool $1 million. So yeah, maybe just watching the auction on TV is a more realistic decision. Unless you go on a Memphis Raines style coup.
