Chicago Christmas Forecast Has Car Buyers Optimistic

Some of the most popular promotions have very little chance of actually benefiting the consumer. But the stakes are so high that if they did, it would be a huge payoff for whoever took the chance. This was the case with a Chicago-area dealership’s “White Friday” sale that actually took place on Black Friday. The dealership stated that it would pay anyone back the full amount of a car purchased on Friday or Saturday – provided it snowed at least six inches on Christmas. Well, now that we’re looking at the forecast…

“A powerful storm is expected to sweep through portions of the midwest Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. The exact track of the system is still uncertain, but it appears likely that the Chicago area will see some heavy, wet snow Wednesday. Many areas are expected to see up to 2 inches of snow, but some areas could see 3 to 6 inches, with snow falling at a rate of one to two inches per hour, according to the National Weather Service.”

Obviously, it would be the insurance company that would end up paying here, but it’s certainly intriguing. And yes, this is the Christmas Eve forecast. But what if the snow came a little late?

The odds were stacked heavily against the consumer on this one, as Christmas day hasn’t seen six inches of snow at O’Hare (where it is recorded) since records started being kept in 1958. But the forecast has to have a handful of car buyers at least somewhat optimistic – and a handful of insurance folks nervous.

For those that took a chance, it could be a Christmas miracle after all.
