Subaru Legacy Teaser Photo Looks Surprisingly Promising
Subaru has released a teaser photo of their Legacy production model ahead of its official debut at the Chicago Auto Show, and while the photo doesn’t reveal much about what’s to come for Subaru’s all-new flagship, it looks fairly promising.
One of my hopes for the production model was that it would take on the sleek coupe-like design of the concept model, and from the looks of the teaser photo, that’s one element that will be sticking around. In fact, stacking the teaser photo on top of a profile view of the concept shows that their shapes are nearly identical. That’s a good sign that the conceptual design will actually have a significant influence on the production model, which hasn’t always been the case for Subaru’s past production models.
The sheer sight of the Subaru WRX concept took me from six to midnight. It didn’t just break the mold of past WRX models, it shattered it, and quickly became one of the most talked-about models at the 2013 New York Auto Show. Then Subaru unveiled the production model which was essentially just a slightly beefier version of past WRX models. Needless to say, the buzz surrounding the all-new performance sedan quickly turned negative.
Concept cars provide automakers with a chance to gauge public interest and find out what works and what doesn’t. You would think that a conceptual design that draws nothing but praise would have an least a little bit of an impact on the production model’s design, but apparently not. Let’s hope that Subaru has learned their lesson this time around.
The redesigned Legacy will be unveiled Feb. 6 at the Chicago Auto Show where the CarDebater team will be to provide you with the first official look at the all-new sports sedan, as well as some other production models that will be debuting at the show, so be sure to check back next week.
