We Didn’t Really Want The Tesla Model X Anyway

It’s a good thing the world has people like Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Because if it weren’t for him, how would we know what we really wanted?

You see, consumers think they want the Tesla Model X – a vehicle that the company has teased us with for a while now. It would seem to make sense, as the Model X is a small SUV that will offer all the things people love about Tesla (long battery life, great performance, cutting-edge style), but with the advantages of a traditional crossover. It’s understandable why there would be a high demand for such a vehicle.

You don’t really want this.

But no, silly people, what you really want is the Tesla Model S. Sure, it’s a completely different configuration and has a different core customer base. But this is what you want. Even though consumers have walked into Tesla stores everywhere and paid the deposit in cash for a Model X, and even though the Tesla site allows you to reserve the X – the fact is, you don’t really want it. And even more, you can’t have it – but Tesla still wants your money.

“There are no cars available for a test drive,” said Musk. “There is no information about the cars in our stores because we’re only selling the S. In fact, if somebody comes in who wants to buy the X, we try to convince them to buy the S. So we anti-sell it.”

You want this.

Leave it to Musk and the boys at Tesla to tease something that we apparently can’t actually have. Come in for the X, get sold on the S. Sounds like a classic car dealer – trying to burn the consumer on the S. And here I thought Tesla was trying to be different.

Will there ever actually be a Tesla Model X release date – or is it all just a scam? Let us know what you think in the comments.
