Seriously, Why Is There Shag Carpet On The Dash Of The Cube?
If you are interested in making the Nissan Cube your next vehicle, then you already have unique taste in vehicles. But I’m not sure this feature even makes it into the category of unique. The Nissan Cube has a round freaking piece of shag carpet on its dash.
Sure, that’s different, but it probably has a great use, right? Nahhhhh. It’s just there. No really, it’s just there. After an online search, it seems that no one is really sure why this thing exists. Even worse, no one has found an actual use for it.
On one forum, a person calmly proclaimed that the dash carpet is there to hold items such as sunglasses and cell phones. Finally! A reason for its existence. But the back-and-forth after that quickly squashed the hope that it could be that simple (and useful).
Person A: “Supposed to hold your stuff? I believe it’s just for decoration”
Person B: “No, it really is supposed to hold sunglasses and stuff“
Person C: “Yeah! Mine doesn’t hold s***”
Person A: “Yeah whether it holds stuff or not, it still looks ridiculous and ugly”
Even the Nissan site frustrates on this topic. Within the images of the interior, there is a picture of the dash carpet. Like you can just throw that picture in there – no big deal. Just some 70s shag on the dash…moving on. But, there is a asterik…that says “Dealer installed, also available as part of the Interior Designer kit.” Again, no help.
So why has Nissan taken the dash space to put this carpet deal there? The world may never know. Because they can, I suppose. Meanwhile, those of us that actually care about the hows and whys of the universe are left without answers. Perhaps it’s as simple as this: If you are pleased with the Cube’s performance you can actively “pet” the car as to say “good job.” Or, maybe you just need some 70s inspiration in your vehicle with the shag carpet.
Does anyone out there have a good explanation for this thing?

The Most Interesting Aspects of the Dodge Demon
Many of us thought that the Dodge Challenger Hellcat was about as intimidating as a car could get. After all, people couldn’t hardly get them off the lot without crashing them when they first came out. Then Dodge upped the ante with the new Demon. But aside from the raw power, there are some other interesting aspects of the new Demon.
Check out the video below for a full rundown of just how unique this car is.

Mercedes Names May Be Getting More Confusing
Think you finally have your Mercedes names mastered? Well, a new challenge appears to be coming, friend.
How to now identify Mercedes models by name
Some moves in the northwoods of Canada by the brand appear to signal a change in the naming conventions that will be used for Mercedes and AMG models. Candian trademarks have been filed for A 40, CLA 40, SLC 40, SLC 50 and GLE 50 in addition to CLA 53, G73 and S73.
If this proves true in the states, it would signal an end to the rule of two digits for Mercedes, three-digits for AMG counterparts. The new world would be two digits, ending in a “0” for Mercedes, and two digits ending in a “3” for AMG. This supports rumors of an AMG ‘73’ model with a hybrid powertrain.
While this change isn’t terribly difficult to comprehend, it certainly makes things interesting when comparing legacy and upcoming Mercedes models. There are a lot of numbers to keep straight, and a lot of explaining to do. And the letter and number combos leave something to be desired in terms of cachet.
It makes one appreciate the simplicity of giving each vehicle an actual name, like the domestic manufacturers do. Sure, that’s how we ended up with the Chevy Nova, but what are you going to do? There are only so many names, surely one for an automobile would end up meaning “no go” in some language, right?…

What’s with Toyota’s weird shifter pattern?
I like my car. It’s a 2011 Toyota toaster, I mean Camry. If you made a list of everything a car has to do, the Camry would check all the boxes. It gets me from point A to point B with the consistency a learning golfer would envy. It’s a toaster. You put in the bread, choose your level of toastiness, push down the thingy and then wait for it to pop up. But there is one interesting thing about my car. The shifter. That’s it up there. That is definitely not conventional at all. So, what’s with Toyota’s weird shifter pattern? (more…)

That dash mat is for nice look purposes only. And most of Cube owners would agree that it looks awesome!
On the back of that mat there is a warning to ‘do not put your stuff on it’ or similar.

I like the shag carpet… it adds character and makes for a good conversation. It does work for me as a cell phone holder 🙂

I have a Nissan cube… it came into my life after I prayed for God to help me with a New Years Resolution – seriously. I totaled a 2009 Cobalt SS (not my fault) and walked away without a scratch… the EMTs had a very very hard time believing I was driving the car. End result? Nissan cube. Lower payment, newer car, insurance went down, gas milage nearly doubled = plenty of money to tithe. It wasn’t easy to give up the first (before tax) 10% but since I did – my finances have NEVER been better.
The Cube is about function and catches your eye with it’s strange look. It’s fun to drive and I can easily fit my 250+ pounds of temple in there easily. Plenty of room in the back for passengers and I’ve hauled my fair share of stuff with it, including an entire oak kitchen table set – chairs would NOT break down and had arm rests – it’s roomy and seems to defy the laws of physics at time.
The little rug thingy is awesome – yep – sun glasses, house keys, electronic toll device, and other trinkets sit nicely up there. I’ve heard they are not going to make them anymore – bums me out.
If there were any CONS to the vehicle – I’d say that it would be winter driving, though maybe investing in a set of winter only tires would help… it’s kinda squirrely in the snow – probably because of how light it is more than the tires. I do have several decades of experience as an auto tech and so I know my tires.
Bottom line is… if you are worried about what you “look like” – you are not going to enjoy the car – cause it’s weird to say the least. However, if you like to shop and drive drive drive on the cheap… winner winner chicken dinner!
God bless you in your walk – should you choose one.

I bought a 2012 Nissan Cube in October of 2019. It only had 36K miles, Cayenne Red with gold pin stripes. It replaced a 1994 Nissan pickup with 285K miles that I’ve owned for 21 years. I love my Cube and all it’s quirkiness. I live in Phoenix and see other Cubes from time to time. When I do see one, I honk and wave and they honk back. I’m buying the shag just because it completes the look. I was very acquainted with shag carpet in the 70’s. Long live the Cube!

i realy think it is kind of so you can pet the car and say good boy or girl because the cube is for quirky people who name their cars.

I guess its an extension of the bath tub theme design. What is a bath tub without a shag mat to dry yourself after soaking?!

No guys I make the round mat that sits on top of the dash (Cube dash mat) and the reason is because under it (the actual dash itself) has a slight dent in it. This was a manufacturing defect that Nissan thought they had to countermeasure, hence the cube dash mat. The dent in the dash actually looks like its supposed to be there but in reality it was a mass defect on Nissans part. I’m clueless as to why they came up with shag for the carpet choice but I guess its sort of quirky like the Cube itself so it fits.

Since the Cube is an imaginary Jacuzzi, a bath mat is absolutely necessary – voila…
