Wrong Way Driver Continues For Eight Miles

Back in my college days, I took a cross-country road trip for spring break. And as many others have found, the drive to the destination is a lot more fun than the drive back. During my stretch of driving home, I was somewhere around hour 20 of continued consciousness as we neared Chicago. What followed continues to be a point of contention between me and one of my buddies.

To this day, he swears he looked over and my eyes were closed, and were not coming back open until we met a fiery end in twisted metal. I maintain that it was simply a prolonged blink and everything was fine. While we may not agree on this, one of those inside joke phrases came out of it. Many times when we cross paths these days, he exclaims: “You had your eyes closed for EIGHT MILES!”

So while not a funny situation, you can imagine my intrigue to find the video below. According to reports, the driver in the video managed to get on the wrong side of the freeway (which would be the correct side for us) and proceed onward as if everything was fine for eight miles.

It’s a good reminder to always pay attention when driving. If this driver and I would have crossed paths in the same eight mile stretch, it could have been real bad. Even though I wasn’t sleeping…and even though we apparently agree on lane choice, no matter the country.
